J-Fest 2002

This was held over two days at May 19 and 20th. The 19th, was J-Fest Matsuri which was a big event put on in conjuction with the Canadian Asian Heritage Month. May 20th was more focus on anime and related goods with lots of video presentations and dealers for stuff. It was a great success with attendance close to 800 on day one and almost 300 in day two.

The convention was run very smoothly thanks to the volunteers like Harvey here, who helped man everything from Guest Relations, Registrations, Video Rooms and of course set up and clean up.

A special thanks to the dealers that were at the convention too, many of them stayed for both days including many of the Japanese concession booths. It was a treat to have some real Japanese food at an Anime Convention for once.

This is by far my personal favourite cosplayer that showed up for the con. For an oriental chick, she didn't have the same figure as a Nanako but I'll let that slide. A small group of anime otakus came in costume which was great to see.

These Final Fantasy X characters were also very well done.

In closing, I would have to say that this convention went very smooth. Personally, it wasn't a big convention like I am use to but Vancouver's population can't support an anime con of a big note just yet. But this one turned out quite well, and will serve as a template for further ones in the future.

On the business side of things, the Nikkei Japanese Heritage Center was successful at this event and my dealer's table sold lots of stuff too so, it was good for me too.
